The Truth about the Air Purifier Replacement Filter

There is a reason why allergies are increasing in America along with those who are diagnosed with asthma. The truth is that the air we breathe is getting dirtier and dirtier due to manmade chemicals and pollution. That is the primary reason why over 50 million Americans now have allergies. Unfortunately, the symptoms of these allergies are ordinarily exasperated in the home, which is a contained environment where dust and common allergens like pollen congregate.

Because allergies simply mean that we are sensitive to a certain irritant, all we have to do is pay a visit to our physician and acquire a prescription that will help protect us from these allergens. But, of course, it’s not quite that easy. A number of these medications, whether over-the-counter or prescription, are quite expensive and bring with them a few unpleasant side effects.

That is one reason why many people decide to purchase an air purifier. As you might expect, the purpose of an air purifier is to remove dust and other irritants from the air in your room. While these units can never be one hundred percent effective, some of the best machines are said to remove more than 95 percent of irritants. This is often enough to help mitigate or even eliminate the symptoms of many allergy sufferers. In fact, many people report that they no longer need their allergy medications when their air purifier is running.

However, one of the things that is often overlooked when people purchase this helpful device is the cost of the air purifier replacement filter. Just like replacement ink cartridges for your computer printer, the price of these filters can be quite expensive depending on the unit you choose.  In fact, these filters run from about seven dollars all the way up to one hundred dollars for the HEPA model filters.

The average air purifier replacement filter should be replaced about once every six months. Unfortunately, this is something that most allergy sufferers are not aware of when they purchase an air purifier. They are also often unaware of the fact that there are units out there that do not require an air purifier replacement filter. In fact, there are a few that have permanent filters built in that can be removed and cleaned and do not have to be replaced.

Another thing to consider is the environmental costs that replacement filters pose, since they are not recyclable and will simply end up in landfills. That is why many consumers are choosing devices that do not require an air purifier replacement filter. It is also true that many air purifiers that do not require replacement filters are every bit as effective as those that do.

In that case, why would you choose a unit that requires an air purifier replacement filter?  Not only are they far more expensive over the long haul, but they are also bad for the environment. And isn’t that exactly what you are trying to prevent? Well, not exactly. You are trying to clean up your home environment. But it seems a little selfish to clean up you home environment while you pass pollution on to others.
